Report by Alex Hagberg
Francesco Martini wins 1/10 Stock class

The Charity Race was held for the 2nd time at the very nice RC Landia facilities in Scandiano, northern Italy. The race organizers had decided to repeat the success from last year, where around 100 entries, and a big Charity lottery collected a lot of money to a local children´s hospital. Drivers from all over Europe joined the race, as the competition remained very strong, similar to that of an ETS event. XRAY and HUDY were together the major sponsors of the event as in the cooperation with the italian distributor Sprint RC both donated the most of the prizes like various tools and equipment including six XRAY 1/18 micro cars and two XRAY XII. However, the majority of the attention of the drivers has been attracted by the main prize - the new T4 and the all-new XB4.

The race was going to be difficult, as the permanent track layout was already well known to the fast local Italian drivers. As the track owner had invested in the high quality CRC carpet from the US, the traction was high and provided a very good feeling. Compared to last year, where the track used a similar carpet to that of the ETS racing series, the feeling of the track was a lot better this year. A big and technical layout, however, with very high average speed, was demanding from driving and car set-up.

The team arrived at the track on Thursday to get used to the track layout, and trying to find a good basic set-up. As I had decided to use the same starting point as fellow teammate Francesco Martini, I knew that I had a good base, which was a result of his and Alessio Menicucci's many testing days at this track. Some new and interesting ideas were incorporated into the set-up. As Adrian Berntsen again showed strong form already in practice, I decided to have a look at his set-up too. The anti-dive used by him also proved to work very well for me. During the Friday open practice I improved a lot and felt that I had found a fast and consistent set-up.

In qualifying I had a great start with a TQ in Q1. Unfortunately the whole team was very unlucky as the organizer made a mistake with the starting procedure in Q2. Both myself, Adrian and Martin suffered from this as it basically ruined our runs. I had to pass three cars already in the first lap and those who started from behind me could not focus on their run at all as it was just a big mess with many cars driving together as a result of the delayed start. The organizer decided not to re-run the heat, but rather to add another whole run of qualifying. In the end I qualified 3rd overall after struggling somewhat in the last few runs. Adrian was by far the quickest in qualifying but unfortunately could not pull of a TQ position after some small mistakes and misfortunes. We were going to have to fight from the back.

The finals were extremely close, and as drivers at this level don't make many mistakes, it made passing really difficult. Adrian was eventually able to finish 3rd overall, and I had to settle for 4th place. If we had a better qualifying, we could have done much better in the finals as I felt that both mine and Adrian's cars were fast enough to win the race. Magnus Vässmar, Tim Wahl and Alessio Menicucci also made the A-final with their T4 cars.

The stock class was dominated by Francesco Martini who showcased a very strong performance in this category. He was also close to making the A-final in the modified class.

Thank you to Team la Gang and their crew for a fun and well organized event. We are already looking forward to next year! XRAY is strong in Italy with many great team drivers and customers! Not to mention that we have a lot of fun together. All drivers seems to be happy with the performance of the T4 on carpet as we continue to fine tune our set-ups.
